Sage announces new registration process

The instructions for registering the software located on pages 2–4 to 2–7 of the Instructions and Assignments book are no longer applicable. In February 2011, Sage changed its registration process so that everything goes through a new site called Sage Customer Portal.

To register your Peachtree software:

  • Open Peachtree.
  • Click on Help.
  • Click on Peachtree Registration. The registration window will open.
  • Within registration window, click on the link www.peachtree.com/register.
  • A "Page Not Found" window will appear; click on Support & Training.
  • The Support & Training window will open. Click on Register Now.
  • The Sage Peachtree Accounting Product Registration window will open and you will have two options. Under the second option, ("If you purchased Sage Peachtree from Sage prior to February 25, 2011 or from a Retail Store..."), click on Log in to the Sage Customer Portal here.
  • The customer portal window will open. Click on Sign up for a Portal Account.
  • The sign up window will open. Click on I am a new Sage Customer.
  • In the next window, enter your information using your college or university as the company name and your personal information (name, address, email address, etc.). Click on Sign Up when finished.
  • A "Welcome to the Sage Customer Portal" page will open. Click on Register Now.
  • Finally, a "Product Registration Confirmation" page will open. Print this for your records.

For Software Issues: Technical support for software issues only (free for 30 days) is provided by Sage after students register their copy of the software online.

Homework and textbook–related questions should be handled by the instructor. If the instructor needs assistance for homework and textbook–related issues, the instructor should contact Armond Dalton for assistance.

Technical Updates and Hints

**Revised Waren dataset effective 2/23/12**
In response to issues that some students were having with accessing inventory and payroll records after restoring Waren from a previously made backup file, Sage Software provided the authors with a solution to the issue. This fix resulted in a revised Waren dataset that was provided electronically to instructors in February 2012. When following the instructions in Chapter 1 (page 1–12) about loading the Waren dataset, students should use the revised dataset provided by their instructor, NOT the Warsposu folder on the CD in the back of the book.

Some students have difficulty accessing the Waren Sports Supply dataset. For these students, they likely did not follow the instructions on page 1–12 to load the Waren Sports Supply dataset as a separate step after the program loads. Follow the instructions on the top of page 1–12 to load the Waren dataset, which describe copying the Warsposu folder directly to the hard drive.

Note: See previous item about a revised Waren dataset that was provided to instructors in February 2012. Students should use the revised Waren dataset when following the page 1–12 instructions, not the dataset from the CD.

This dataset needs to be loaded separately because it is an additional company developed by the authors. The other two companies used in the project, Bellwether Garden Supply and Stone Arbor Landscaping, were developed by Sage Software so they automatically load when the program installs.

If your CD sleeve is missing a serial number, contact your instructor immediately. He or she will provide you with a serial number label to affix to the CD sleeve in the back of the Instructions and Assignments book. The software will not load without a serial number.

If students receive a prompt to enter a Tax Registration ID while attempting to process payroll, they should ignore any steps suggested by Sage to update the payroll tables. In addition to answering any questions as if they want to ignore the payroll updates that Sage is attempting to download, students should mark any checkboxes that appear that say "do not show this window again" so that they do not have to continue receiving payroll update prompts in the future. These prompts appear simply because Sage attempts to make sure users have the most recent payroll tax tables. All necessary payroll tables for companies used in our book are already entered into the program at the correct amounts for this project.
